JERSEY BREEDERS.

ANNUAL REPORT. HELD AT PALMERSTON NORTH. The following is the report of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, which is to ho submitted to the annual meeting of members to he held at Palmerston North on Thursday, July 1: — The continued increase in all departments reflects the solid prepress made by the Association. Our liiphly satisfactory financial position as disclosed by the balance-sheet needs no other comments. Our membership continues to increase, and now stands at, 1,448. The number of animals registered during the, year has eclipsed all previous yearly registrations by 773. being 3477 males and 5301 females, a total of 8778. The number of animals transferred during Ihc year is as follows: 3202 males, 3 431 females, representing an inciease in each sex, and a total increase of 04 4 over last* year’s figures. In this connection we wish to comment upon the large increase in number of animals transferred, which gives some indication of the growing demand for Jerseys. This greater demand has undoubtedly been brought about as tho direct result of our publicity campaign. Judicious advertising, coupled with the distribution of Jersey literature by the office, is having the desired effect, and fully justifies the expenditure under this heading. During the year ended December 31, 1025, first class certificates have been gained by 500 animals under S.O. test, 08 of which were second, third or fourth records, and 445 exceeded tho minimum qualification by at, least 1001 b fat. Despite the fact that the standard set by the gold medal winners in recent years is exceptionally high, two new .records have been established. In the junior two-year-old class Keston Flower, owned by Mr O. E. Yelchich, produced 604.281 b fat, and in the class for cows five years and over. Holly Dale’s Annie, owned by Mr XV. T. Williams, produced 1050.401 b fat. These two cows have earned the special prize of £lO for exceeding the previous highest record in their respective classes, in addition to the usual subsidy. We congratulate the owners on these very fine performances amd wish them further success. Although the number of cows placed under S.O. test was slightly lower than the previous year, the results are full of merit, and the average for the whole number of certificates issued has again been raised. It now stands at 441.061 b, as against 437.571 b last year. It is our great pleasure to again record our thanks and appreciation to the good, work carried out by the staff of this department, under Mr Singleton’s supervision. The last issue or the A.lt.M. pamphlet is the commencement of a new volume. Any member desirous of a copy of the consolidated volume which contains records of all certificates issued up to December 31, 1924, may obtain same by applying to the secretary. The continued increase in Hie number of registrations and transfers, etc., each succeeding year, means a substantial increase in the work to be carried out by the office staff, and it speaks volumes for the splendid system employed which deals with the large amount of correspondence and filing of records so promptly and efficiently, while still maintaining the very moderate cost of administration. We congratulate members on the past year’s successful operations, and venture to express the opinion that further successes will eventuate during the ensuing year, so long as members adhere to our slogan and breed right, feed better, and test more. The balance-sheet showed a - balance to credit on the profit and loss account of £1527 8s lOd, and the accumulated fund account showed a balance of £6735 13s.
