OUTBREAK IN LANARKSHIRE. TRACED TO IMPORTED PIGS. AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY. (Received June 3, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, June 5. Outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Lanarkshire and Carlisle have been traced to pig carcases imported from Belgium through Holland. The Ministry of Agriculture I raced and destroyed all carcases forming the consignment, and other shiploads were inspected and sent back to Rotterdam. • The Minister of Agriculture declares that the discovery is most important. For the first lime evidence has been obtained in support of the suspicion that the disease is due to foreign meat, enabling the Government to take 'preventive measures.
