TE AWAMUTU ORPHANS.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Well over 90 members of the Te Awamutu Orphans' Club attended the fortnightly social meeting, and there were also several visitors. The chairman for the evening was Bro. E. W. McCarter, last year's president, and he was in good form. Proceedings were commenced in the customary manner and the Orphans' Orchestra (fourteen strong, with Bro. J. T. North conducting) delighted with a couple of well-rendered selections. Bro. W. Mills then sang "The Blue Dragoons," for which he was heartily encored. Bro. Randall entertained with tales of "Mile End Road," following with some clever imitations of various amateurs reciting "The Charge of the Light Brigade." Bro. If. Saunders, of Hamilton, was accorded a rousing reception for his contributions, "The Bedouin Love Song" and "Up Prom Somerset," responding to the double encore with "Lolila." Next to contribute to the programme was a visitor, MrMarzlac, Willi his Italian melodeon. lie played several popular airs, and concluded with a little Italian lyric in his native language. After the supper interval the chairman delivered a few humorous stories, and announced that an invitation had been received to visit Onchunga next Saturday and Cambridge the following Thursday. Opening the second part of the musical programme Mr Marzlac contributed further evidence of his skill with the melodeon, after which Bro. Saunders sang "The Bandolero," "Because," and "Jack's at Home." Each was vociferously applauded. Bro. Randall gave some character sketches, introducing the ditties "He's Not Dead Yet," "An Ode to a Spring Onion," and "A Dream." The orchestra concluded a pleasant evening's entertainment with two well rendered selections.
