SHOW CHAT.

The Gold Gup for swedes at the Waikato Winter Show has been won four times by Sutton's, with different varieties each time. The Post Office at the Show, where letters may be mailed, stamps purchased, telegrams despatched, and telephone messages scut, is a source of great convenience to visitors. It is centrally situated with an attendant always on duty.

Referring to the proposed Agricultural College at the opening of Ihe Show yesterday, the Prime Alinisler said lie was desirous that this should be regarded as a national rather than a parochial institution. lie wanted to sec the cream of the young men of tho country take up the science of agriculture, for there was never a better time for young men desirous of going on the land to look round and make a start than the present.

Speaking at yesterday’s opening of the Winter Show, the Prime Minister referrred to the innovation of farmers' excursions from ope district to another. Shortly the first one yould be run from AVaikato to Taranaki, where the farmers of this district would, for a "fiver,” be able to go by train from Hamilton to Taranaki, spending four days in the latter district and return to their homes. Next year he hoped, if this experiment proved a success, to run silirnar excursions from Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, and AVellington provinces to Hamilton. (Applause.)

The Argentine Consul-General for New Zealand, Alr Humbert Ridone, who spent yesterday at the Show, was greatly impressed with its comprehensiveness. lie also remarked upon the tremendous interest which the Show seemed to create, and the excellent dairy and root display, lie had never expected to find, in a district so far away from tho capital, such a very varied display of produce of such excellent, quality.

The catering this year is well in advance of what it has been at previous Shows. It. is in the hands of Air Haynes, of Auckland, who is now familiar to Show and racegoers of this part of the province. Tho food is wholesome, and it is served up in a cleanly way.

Probably the part of the Show which attracts (he biggest crowds is the amusement park, around which it is difficult to move of an afternoon and evening. The attractions here are not merely for the kiddies, for wc find grown-ups in numbers quite as large. Amongst the finest displays at the Show are the district courts. These arc most comprehensive, and arc an education in themselves. They arc attracting considerable interest, and are certainly a credit to the people of those districts who have gone to the time and trouble to make t’hcm possible.

The Plunkct Society is doing a useful work, by keeping its room open at the Show as a rest haven for weary mothers and children. Alany ladies have reason to be grateful to the society for its thoughtfulness.

A visitor to the Show from Alatamata, who has never missed a Show since its inception, described the root, section as nothing short of magnificent. It is, lie said, Ihe finest display of roots lie has ever seen in this or any other country, and he lias visit oil many. They were of wonderful size, excellent leisure, end generally of very high quality.
