A GRAVE SITUATION. (Australian and N.Z. Press Assn.) LONDON, June 1. A message from Cairo says that under ordinary circumstances I lie Prime Minister of Egypt, Ziwar Pasha, would have handed iu his resignation yesterday morning as a result of the defeat of the Government party at the general election. Difficulties have arisen, however, and consequently Zirwar postponed action. It Is generally understood that Lord Lloyd, High Commissioner to Egypt, insisted on guarantees in the event of Zaglilul Pasha forming a Cabinet. These were not forthcoming. It is also alleged that Zaglilul desired to include in his Ministry Ahmed Maher, who was among the men who were acquitted at the recent murder trial.

The diplomatic correspondent of tiie Daily Telegraph says it is understood that the British Government is extremely dissatisfied with 'the result of the recent trial of tiie men who were charged with the murder of the late Sirdar, Sir Lee Stack, but nothing lias yet been decided. The general situation in Egypt, however, is undoubtedly grave. The Cabinet sat late last night considering the Egyptian situation, as well as tiie coal strike.
