ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By “Lex.”) Arrangements are now complete for the matches against Auckland on Thursday, and the sides representing South Auckland schoolboys and the South Auckland representative senior eleven have already appeared in the columns of this paper. The Hamilton side in the match against Lower Waikato had very little luck, and it was really hard lines to lose the match after having most of the play. However, that Is all in the game, and I am sure the home side, in fact, both teams quite enjoyed the game, which was played in a most cxcclient spirit. These representative matches are a source of considerable interest being increased in the code locally, and there was a fairly good crowd ol' spectators at Scddon Park. Enthusiasm will be awakened further, when the Brown Shield comes up for discussion, and it appears as though the officials arc in for a fairly busy season. Although Mr J. A. Clark did not seek office this season, it is good to sec him still willing to lend a hand iu the conduct of the game. There were one or two reasonable certoiuties missing, when the names of the team to play against Auckland were announced, one being a prominent local attacker, and the other an equally well known defender. In the latter case, at least, it can be taken that an experiment is to be tried by the South Auckland selectors, as there are more important representative games in view.

Harry Ashton is to be congratulated on getting his place in the South Auckland eleven as he has been within an acc of doing so before, but something has happened to prevent his inclusion, mainly a matter of temperament, but. this season, he has so far, played very steady and consistent football, and with Ted Hall, of Huntly, should make an ideal combination.

“Bill” Green, after a couple of season’s absence from rep. football, has also caugtit the selectors’ eyes again and a lot will depend upon him in the Auckland game, as ihc centre half position is one of great responsibility. A lot will also bo expected of Alex. Moon, who will no doubt be up against a hot proposition in Kissock, Auckland’s famous centre half, but if he can engage his opponent’s exclusive attention, his immediate colleagues will benefit.

Haycock, the old Morrinsville player, has signed on for Hamilton United, and will no doubt be a decided acquisition to that club.' It is good to sec some of the old players returning to the fold.

The new seating accommodation at Scddon Park is proving very handy,

especially to the fair sex, of whom, there were quite a number present last Saturday.

Waihou were beaten last week at 'Thames by four goals to one for the first time this season, and the return match at Waihou next Saturday is being eagerly looked forward to by the enthusiasts of the Te Aroha district. ' The game at Thames at times developed into roughness, and it is quite possible that a Hamilton referee will have control of the game on Saturday.
