STRIKERS RESUME WORK. FORTY-FOUR HOURS TROUBLE, (United Press Association.) SYDNEY, May 31. All the men who were on strike in connection with the 44-hours week dispute resumed work to-day. The representatives of all Hie Labour councils in Australia are meeting in Melbourne. They have commenced tin: consideration of the 44-hours week as it affects the whole Commonwealth. LATER. The resumption of work after the 44-hours strike is not altogether complete owing to a number of men obtaining work elsewhere. The secretary of the Coachmakers' Union stated that some employers had refused to re-employ a number of hands, and the matter was to be referred to the disputes committee of the Labour Council. A hitch occurred in the motor body building industry over the interpretation of a clause in the agreement. Four shops have not rc-opencd. Certain members of the Iron Workers' Assistants' Union were told that their services would not be required. The employees at the Broken Hill Proprietary's steel works are not affected by the agreement. Negotiations are well in progress for a settlement of their dispute. COAL POSITION UNCHANGED. DISTRESSED MINERS. (United Press Association.) (Received June 1, 0.23 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 1. The coal situation is unchanged. A deputation from the Miners' Federation waited on the Chief Secretary, Mr Lazzarini,- and asked that the Government provide relief for the miners who are suffering in consequence of the strike. Mr Lazzarini intimated that arrangements will be made for the establishment of relief committees on the coalfield. Mr Gibson, the engine-drivers' general secretary, slates that negotiations are in progress for a settlement, of the dispute at three collieries on the northern fields.
