LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. CAR AND TRAIN COLLIDE. (By Telesrraph—Press Association.V CHTUSTCHUnCH, Monday. A serious accident occurred sf; 5.1 D p.m. on Saturday, when a motorcar driven by Stanley Walker, o* Christchurch, collided with the Christchurch- Southbridgc train at Prebbleton crossing. There wore, four adult passengers, two children, and two infants in the car at the lime. Mrs Lucy Gamble, or Grafton Street, was the only passenger to receive serious injury. She was taken to Chrislchurch Hospital suffering from concussion of the brain. The driver had his lcrt leg and body severely bruised.

Walker did not hoar tho warning whistle, and, thinking,that the line was clear, he prepared to cross it. However, when a few 7 feet from the line he saw the. train and immediately applied the brakes. The car swerved, but the driver could not clear the train, and dashed into the rear engine, the car being smashed to pieces. The injured wore conveyed to Lincoln in the guard's van. Mrs Gamble's condition is improving. The others bave returned to their homes. STRATFORD, Monday. Jessie Knox, aged 12 years, daughter of a country resident, died in hospital yesterday as the result of burns caused by her clothing catching fire at the kitchen range some weeks ago. MARTON, Monday. A motor-cycle ridden by two brothers named Hensen, of Marlon, ran into a pram on the main road near here, resulting in severe Injuries to a man named Murchie, who was wheeling the pram. Leslie Wilton, aged 20, had his right leg amputated in the hospital as a result of injuries received in a collision between his motor cycle and a motor car late on Saturday night. TAURANGA, Monday. The foreman in charge of the work of altering and adding to the Te Puke Dairy Factory, Mr C. Wright, fell from a scaffold 25ft. high. It was found that his neck was dislocated. He was immediately brought in to the Tauranga Hospital, where he now lies in a precarious condition. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday.

. Two unusual accidents connected with motor-cars occurred yesterday. James Oddy and Reg. Terry, residents of Lincoln, were cranking cars in the township when the engines back-fired and both received fractured arms when struck by the crank handles.
