LIVELY PRAYER MEETING.
REPORTERS EXCLUDED. A PROTEST ENTERED. Protests against a board going into committee and the press being excluded from their deliberations were made at a special meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board. The chairman, Mr Andrew, said that the meeting had been called to consider a circular from the Public Works Department. The circular, lie said, was important, and it had been thought advisable to call a special meeting to consider it. lie did not know if the members desired tiic press to be present. Mr R. \v. Waterhouse: I think we should consider it in committee. I move in that direction. Mr W. Harvey: 1 second that. Mr 11. Ilill: 1 protest against going into committee. I think those questions should lie discussed openly. The public is entitled to know what is going on. 1 move an amendment that we consider the c'rcular in open board. Mr M. S. Chambers': I second that. I think the public are entitled to know what goes on. The amendment was lost, only the mover and seconder supporting it, and Ihe motion to go into committee was carried, Messrs Waterhouse, Harvey, Kettle, and Andrew supporting it.
Mr Harvey: 1 suggest that the result be handed to the press lor publication at the conclusion of the meeting. Mr Hill (indignantly) : Wlutt is the good of just publishing the result? The public are entitled to know the opinions of the members of this board on a subject vitally connected with the progress of tin; city—hydro-clcetrieity —and they cannot do that if we are continually going into committee, it is like going into a prayer meeting, (bond laughter.) 'Pile chairman then reminded Hie board that the motion lo go inio committee had been carried, and discussion lapsed, the pros representatives tiling out of the room.
