Tachbrook SI reel, Westminster, sued William Chandler Grover, of 128, ]lampion iioad, Twickenham, lo obtain possession of Mi" ('.rover's house in Hampton Ituail, under a mortgage to secure loans of 1150. .Mr drover said dial Hie so-called loans were belting debts in respect of his betting- transactions with Mr Holmyard, and that if (here was a mortgage (which he denied) it was executed for an illegal consideration. i Mr \V. Harvey Moore, for Mr Holm- . yard, said that there were promissory notes for £325 when the mortgage was executed and a further £IOO advanced. Mr liolmyard said that Mr Grovcr in a lelier referred lo Mr Oxley as a gentleman "supposed to know every winner." Mr .Hislice Sankey observed thai that must be very useful information. "What is his address?" he asked. The question was not answered. ; Mr liolmyard: In another letter lie ; says, ".Now I can go to Hie dogs; it is , the way of the world." Mr Justice Sankey: He seems to have followed- the horses and gone to the dogs. Answering Mr C. W. Measor, for Mr Grovcr, Mr liolmyard declared that be bad no books. His place was raided and they were destroyed. You did keep books? —The police kept them. (Laughter.) Mr drover said that he bad large betting transactions with Mr liolmyard and bad lo sell a house at Brighton for £SBO, giving Mr" liolmyard a cheque, Mr liolmyard giving him £250 balance. Mr Justice Sankey found for Mr liolmyard. saying that there was evidence that Mr Lirover borrowed one j £IOO, and he had endorsed cheques j for a considerable further amount. j
