SPECIAL FARMERS’ EXCURSIONS. THREE TO WAIKATO NEXT YEAR. IF the special farmers’ train, which is to run from Waikato to Taranaki on June 30, proves a success, it is almost certain that three special trains for farmers from different parts of die NorUi Island will be run in connection widi the Waikato Winter Show next year. When die idea was first mooted this year it was a litde too late to carry out the necessary propaganda work in time for the Winter Show wliich opens at Hamilton next week. In connection with the train to Taranaki, this will leave Frank ton Junction at 10.30 a.m. on June 30, arriving at Hawera at 9 o’clock die same night. A stay of two days will be allowed for in South Taranaki. Hawera will be left on the return journey on the night of July 2, the train arriving at Frankton on the morning of July 3. The Railway Department will arrange for accommodation in Hawera and the surrounding district, in co-operation with die Hawera Winter Show Committee, and will also issue descriptive matter concerning the country through which the excursion train passes. ft 500 TRAVELLERS EXPECTED. It is anticipated that at least 500 members of the rural community in South Auckland and die Waikato will make the trip. , Between now and June 30 the proposals will be explained in detail to meetings, of farmers by Mr IT. Welsh, railway commercial agent. Farmers who arc interested will be provided with a form on which they will he invited to state die number of persons for whom they desire to reserve accommodation and the rate they arc prepared to pay. These forms will be collected and sent to Hawera,, where on them will he entered the name of the hotel or the persons with whom die excursionists will stay. The completed forms will be handed to the farmers on the train when it leaves Frankton. It is considered that this arrangement will greatly facilitate farmers finding their lodgings when they arrive at Hawera. IN FORMAT,! ON FOR FARMERS. An illustrated booklet, “Through the Carriage Window,” is to be given to each of the excursionists. The booklet will contain full details of the quality and value of the land being passed, die cost to cultivate it, and the prospective return, and particulars of the herds and Hocks to he seen from the train, as well as other matters of interest both from the farming and tourist points of view, 'flic preparation of this booklet is how in hand. Provision is to be made for excursionists from other districts to connect with tin* special train either by travelling to Frankton on .lime 29, or on the morning of June 30.
