HOCKEY.
INDIANS BEAT WANGANUI. WANCANI'f. Saturday. The Indian Army hockey learn met and defeated Wanganui by 12 goals to one. The game was mainly a succession of attacks by Ihe visitors, whose fitness and perfect formation enabled them lo quickly break up any promising Wanganui movements. The visitors always had a player handy and seldom failed lo get a hit in: The local men lost a few opportunities through excessive eagerness, while their hitting was often without definite objective. The Indians' slick work was very clever 'throughout, especially that of lihian Chand. who has almost uncanny power of controlling Ihe ball, while he shoots with remarkable precision from any angle. The ground was somewhat soft after recent rains; nevertheless the game was fast, over 2000 spectators being keenly interested throughout. The Indians' scores were secured by lihian Chand (5), Bellchamber (i), Cox (2), Jemadar Lai Singh (I), For Wanganui Sitnmonds scored the only goal from a corner hit. The whole of the Indian team played well throughout, understanding each other's play. Wanganui's best players were MoIntyre, Young, Simmonds and Connell. LADfES' HOCKEY. Following are the results of Saturday's matches: Old Girls A. beat Leamington, 4—i. Old Girls R. beat Huntly 13, 3—o. Ilunlly A. beat Huia, 7 —o. The Taupiri v. Ngaruawahia match was postponed.
