CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
* MEETING AT TE AWAMUTU. The monthly meeting of the To Awamulu Chamber of Commerce was held lasL evening, when the president, Mr R. A. Coyne, presided over a fair attendance. The Hon. Minister of Education replied to Ihe Chamber’s support of the School Committee’s request for Hie establishment of a Junior High Schoollie slated that lie had instructed his Department to proceed with ail investigation into tlie ease. He added that Ihe fact that the Chamber supported I lie endeavours of the School Committee is evidence of a united demand foe ihe establishment of a Junior High School, and adds considerable weight to the request. it was decided to thank the Minister for his letter, and io reply hoping that I lie outcome will he the early establishment of such an institution. Tlie president reported on the deputation to the Borough Council regarding the establishment of a Fire Board in To Awamutu. lie said that they had a very favourable reception, and" that Hie malice had been referred to a suh-eoniiniltee for a further report, and tile matter was in their hands at present. As soon as the report was made something would be done. Tlie president brought up the question of tlie suggested cutting out of Hie daylight express. He said that there was no doubt that the train was one of the best for local requirements. He thought that the Chamber should join in the protest against tlie cutting out. Members generally were unanimous in their support of a protest being made. it was decided Rial tlie question of replying be left in the hands of the president, secretary, and Mr Warburton. The present method of the Railway Department in issuing delivery notes in duplicate was discussed..’ Members pointed out lliat if they were issued in triplicate it would save a great deal of delay lo consignees. It was decided that tlie Chamber make a protest, asking that they be issued in triplicate. It was decided to again issue a strong protest against the present dangerous crossing al Alexandra Street, there having been several narrow escapes at tins place.
