MARKET REPORTS. LATEST QUOTATIONS. Tli, lollowing is a summary of the Hamilton markets for the past week:— Seed merchants report a seasonal falling-ofT in trade, though large quantities of fertilisers are still being distributed for top-dressing. The demand for stork foods is increasing. There is practically no alteration in last week’s prices. Fowl wheat is •quoted at ‘.is (id bushel ex store, and there are indications of a rise on the arrival of the next shipment. A shipment, of South African maize arrived last week and is selling at Os Gd ex store, fiats are quoted as follows: A grade i airfoils, retailing at (is fid, machinedressed'lnins and Algerians 7s. Bran and pollard are in good demand, and are selling at J2s fid and 13s re: peclively. ho cal ehaff is being retailed at .1 Os (id and Blenheim at 12s fid. There is a glut'in the fruit market and prices are down. All classes of apples are arriving freely, hut pears are scarce. Tomatoes are about finished, and are selling at 7s lo LOs per ease. Other prices are: Dessert apples ■is to 7s, cooking apples is lo fis. dessert, pears up to 13s, and cooking pears 5s to 7s. The price of butter is unchanged, being as follows: Superfine Is 9d lb, first grade Is Sd and second grade Is 7d. ‘Eggs arc scarce, and - likely lo remain so for the remainder of the month. The price is 3s 6d dozen. Fair quantities of poultry have been received during the past week and have been disposed of at satisfactory prices. Cockerels made, from 2s lOd to 3s ltd, liens (heavy breeds) 3s 2d to 3s 9d, hens (light, breeds) 2s id to 3s 3d, hens (old) Is Id lo 2s, ducks 2s 7d, and is Id lo 5s 2d. PEDIGREE JERSEY SALE. MR B. E. VEALE’S HERD. A sale of pedigree Jersey cattle on account of Mr I>. E. Vcalc, of Tirohia, was conducted hv the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Go., Eld., yesterday. Despite the inclement weather* there was a fair attendance of buyers from all parts of Ihe district. Bidding was not been and prices were a little lower ihan should have hocn realised for Ihe class of cattle, offered. The highest, price of the day was fio guineas, paid by Mr A. Hazelton, of Wailiou, Tor Ihe cow Tirohia Briar Leaf. A number of oilier cows sold at over in guineas. In the case of the Imrd sire Yiolanas K.G. bidding did not reach the owner’s reserve and he was passed in. Three younger trulls sold at 23. 13 and 12 guineas respectively. At Pio Pio on Thursday, owing to Hie wet weather, there were only small yardings of sheep and cattle, which sold at late rales. Four-year ewes in lamb to S.D. rams 2is Gd, fat cows £4 7s Gd lo £4 12s Gd, store cows £2 13s to £3 15s, empty heifers 33s to £2 Cs. “MIDDLE RUN” JERSEY SALE. The well-known “Middle Run” Jersey stud founded in 1903 and owned by Messrs W. 11. Booth and Sons, of Carterton, was dispersed on Wednesday, May 5. The splendid breeding of "the stock and the high reputation of the stud attracted a record attendance of buyers, with the result that the cattle were very widely distributed. Despite Ihe serious drought experienced in the Wairarapa, flic cattle came forward in splendid condition, which demonstrates their wonderful constitution. The “Middle Run” Jerseys arc line-bred to the. famous Monopolist strain, and are. widely known for their wonderful udder development. which fact made breeders very keen to secure, this great strain. The sale was conducted by Wright, Stephenson and Go., LtcL, in conjunction with the Wairarapa Farmers’ Goop. Association, Ltd. The highestpriced cow, Jersey Meadows Sunday (1918), Saivozc of Jersey Meadows — Sunimp of Jersey Meadows, 1 11) gns, was purchased by Air F. Phillips, Olorohanga. Messrs A.
