MESSAGE FROM PREMIER. BRITISH GOODS WELCOME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. 'Pile New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents recently asked the Prime Minister if he would give a message for manufacturers at Home, and Hie Hon. J. G. Coates, in response to the request, made the following statement: ‘■Nowhere are British goods more welcome than in New Zealand, and this Dominion is the greatest consumer per capita of such goods. Ry real and substantial preference, both in customs duties and in the placing of contracts; New Zealand and tne Governnmnt show a strong desire lo encourage the British manufacturer. It is plain, therefore, that with proper organisation and with the feeling of goodwill existent, there is a splendid opportunity for the British manufacturer to expand bis business here. Let him make a study of the, requirements of the market, botli as to the standard and the design of manufactures, and keep in close touch with the importers and buying institutions in this Dominion, not only by resident agents but by personal visits to the Dominion. There is no doubt that the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers is doing good work on sound Files in promoting the prestige of British goods, and that the organisation is worth every encouragement, especially from manufacturers themselves in the United Kingdom.
