THREE WAYS OF LOOKING AT IT.
Once upon a time a cathedral was being built to the honour and glory of God. A philosopher was passing by, and he looked up at the scaffolding an l the sky, and down at the earth and the men working on it.
There were three' stone-cutters labouring together, and the philosopher went up to them. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"Me? Oh, I'm just cutting stone," said one, rather dully, wishing he could walk about and ask questions. The philosopher spoke to the second man. > "What are you doing?" said he.
The mason looked at him sharply. "I'm earning three he replied, and he wonder.ed how much this queer, shabby-looking old man Who spoke to him was earning. The philosopher passed on to the third man. "And what may you be doing?" he asked. The man glanced up from his stone. "I'm building a cathedral," he said with a gentle smile, and went straight on with his work.
