BEARS IN COURT.

CRUELTY CHARGE DISPROVED

GENEVA, January 28

A man named Grosscnbachcr, keeper of the famous bear pit at Berne, brought an action for defamation of character against three employees who accused him of cruelty to the bears.

During the hearing of the case two bears were brought into the Court. They immediately began to growl angrily, evidently expecting a beating fiom the three defendants. Then Grosscnbachcr entered and the bears grunted with joy and licked both liis hands. They even attempted to hug him.

The smiling keeper said: "The bears have judged the case." The Judge remarked that no further evidence was required.
