The Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Te Aroha Borough Council on Wednesday and urged it to take steps to have a' publie swimming bath erected at Te Aroha, as the time had arrjved when such was necessary. 1 Referring io the need of a cold swimming balth, the deputy-Mayor, Cr. G. Hedge, referred to the advisability of making enquiries from Morrinsvflle as to the cost of the baths there. He moved toa that effect..

The motion was seconded by Cr. Gordon.

Cr. Hamilton opposed any suggestion of making any increase in the rates.

Cr. McMahon seconded the amendment, as, the time is not opportune to build another, bath. At the present time there is ample provision in the Te Aroha Domain. The Council is busily engaged in a big undertaking in the erection of the traffic bridge. Cr. Sellars said it was time that the ratepayers shouldered their own responsibility and became more independent of the Government. He felt there was a need for a public swimming bath. Cr. Kennedy saw no reason why the particulars suggested by Cr. Hedge should not be obtained. The Mayor favoured the information being obtained. He suggested that the Chamber of Commerce take the matter up. The motion was carried.
