ORINI.
GUY FAWKES. A general invitation to all to come along to the Guy Fawkes on the evening of November 5 was given by Mr and Mrs E. Caddigan, of Orini Downs. Over 100 availed themselves of the invitation, of which number a large proportion were children. A huge bonfire was started at 8 o'clock, which was the signal for the setting off of a varied assortment of fireworks. For a couple of hours the fun was fast and furious, everyone joining in heartily. Supper was then handed round, after which an adjournment .was made to the house, where songs, choruses, etc. ■were thoroughly enjoyed. Mr Bcnky, on behalf of the visitors, thanked Mr and Mrs Caddigan for providing such an entertaining evening and cheers for their host and hostess were heartily given. Tennis. Work has been commencedl on the concreting of one Of the tennis courts of the local club. A great part of the work has been done by working bees. As soon as this work is completed the club will open its season. Dairying. Considerably more milk is being received at the local cheese factory than was the case at this period last year. This is largely due to the increased use of fertilisers and to the improvement in the herds due to the work of the Herd Testing Association. The benefits of testing are generally acknowledged by the farmers and most of the local herds have entered up for this season.
