MEAT EXPORT SEASON.
WORST IN FORTY YEARS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Tuesday. At a meeting of representatives of the two freezing works, it was decided to open for the season on December 1. Buyers agree that there will be' little stock offering by that time as the season is very backward, but consider that it is no use postponing the opening date. Up to the present no prices have been announced for fats, but it is expected an announcement will be made in a few days. Cold wintry weather during the last fortnight has seriously affected stock throughout the ' district, and heavy losses of shorn sheep have occurred in parts of the district. Experienced farmers say that this is the worst season they have known for forty years, and that unless warm rains and good weather come soon very little fat stock will be got into the works before the second week in January. Lambs have not done wall up to the present, and big sheep generally arc not in good condition.
