The local clubs were well represented at the Thames tournament this week when the best of bowling weather was experienced. The noted hospitality of the Thames Club was again on order and, summed up, it proved a delightful outing. Norrie Bell, the well known Hamilon skip will be taking a team to the Dominion tournament at Wellington In January.' It is also quite likely that “Dick" Pilkington will have charge of a team thore also. It was a case of “early doors” for the first tournament at Roto;ua this season. Bell and Coombes have entered teams from the 'Hamilton club. FRANKTON A THE RAILWAY SIDE. There were only a lew points margin in favour of the four Frankton rinks on the aggregate when they played Frankton Railway on Saturday. , Frankton got their principal contribution towards success from the win of Doleman, Carswell, Fraser Smith and Burton (s) over Rowse, Downes, Moon and McDonald (s). Burton’s side was right on Its game; In fact the opposition scored only five ends of play, and the final tally ran out to 39—7 in Button’s favour. Dearsley, Jorgensen, Smallwood, and Robinson (S) had a very keen game of it with the Franktoi) team which comprised Currie, Wheeler, Higgins and Frost (s). It was neck and neck scoring for half the journey, but Robinson and his men drew out in the closing stages and held 7 points at the finish. Maud, C. Jackson, Anchor and L. Jackson (s) kept the Frankton flag on top in their game with Simpson, Alexander, Goddard and Shelton (s), This proved as blose a scoring contest as would be possible. Jackson jumped away with a slight lead which he held until the 12th head. The scores were even going on the 14th and 16th heads and the Railwayites were 3 up with two heads to play. On these Jackson scored live and took the honours by two points. The principal success to Railway was achieved by Radcliffe, Martin, Buckley and Fruish (s), who took toll of Porter, Lafferty, Crawshaw and Taylor (s) by 30—11. HAMILTON GO DOWN TO MORRINSVILLE. Two drawn games were the best Hamilton teams could achieve in opposition to five of Morrinsville’s selection at the latter centre on Saturday. The green was very heavy and some rain showers happened along near the close ot play to make affairs more intricate.' Pile, King, Condon and Harton (s), composed one of the Hamilton teams which finished level against the home, four skipped by "Bint, Harton is a former South Island player who has been showing good form since coming here. A 4 at the 10th brought Lymburn within striking distance, but Moncrlcff notched 3’s on four occasions in the later play, which was tbe principal factor in giving the latter victory by a useful margin. Hall, Roberts, Wernham and Pilkington (s) did not complete the last two heads against Branch owing to the rain. At this stage the home team was 2 points to the good, so that it was not an impossible position for Pilkington. After the opening head. Branch was in front until a 4 at the 10th gave Pilkington the favoured position. It vvas not held as Branch claimed 5 on the 11th and from that out was showing the way.

A pennant competition. With the object of creating further interest in inter-club play In this district, a new competition Is about to bo entered into among the five clubs in Hamilton, and Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Ngaruawahia, and Huntly clubs. The proposals, which have yet to bo submitted to those concerned, aim at deoiding the ultimate holders of the pennant at the end of a season on a percentage basis of wins to games played. The number of teams a club is eligible to enter is decided on membership, which works out In the fol • lowing ratio approximately: Hamilton, 10. teams; Cambridge, Whitiora and Frankton, 5 teams each; * Frankton Railway, 4 teams; Hamilton East, Te Awamutu and Ngaruawahia, 3 team.: each; Huntly 2 teams. The teams wili be grouped in tens for the purposes of play. It is probable that only one round of play will be undertaken to decide the pennant this season. The scheme, which Mr Fruish, of the Frankton Club, is responsible for or iginating, promises t| evoke increased interest in Inter-club play. ,
