The death is announced of Henry Adelbert Wellington Fitzroy Somerset, ninth Duke of Beaufort, aged 77. Messrs Anderson, W. J. Crowther (Rongotea, Palmerston North), H. H. Fisher (Auckland) are at the Hotel Northland.

A Sydney message records’ the death of Dr. John Frew Robertson, aged 50. He was bora at Dunedin and graduated at the Otago University.

News has been received in Dunedin of the death of the Rev. Peter Milne, of Uguna, in the New Hebrides. He and his wife settled at Uguna m 1870, and three of his family are missionarias.

The Prime Minister showed a marked improvement yesterday, and is in \ better health than at any time since his ilness commenced. Mr Massey wil remain in Auckland until to-mor-rom evening.

A London message states that Dr. G. B. Fisher, previously lecturer at Melbourne University, has accepted the Chair of Economics at Dunedin. He received the London University degree of Doctor of Philosophy In October, at the age of twenty-eight. He will sail by the Mooltan on Decernber 19Mr T. H. Wood was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Stringer, on the motion of Mr W. R. Tuck, on Wednesday last. Mr Justice Stringer complimented Mr Wood, who has Just attained his majority, on the fact that he gained his LL.B. at the age of 20 years. Mr Wood is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Wood, of To Awamutu, and an old pnpil of tho To Awamutu School. .
