SATURDAY'S TRIAL GAME. REPRESENTATIVES SUCCESSFUL. The Hamilton Rugby League representatives to meet Auckland, at Auckland, on Wednesday, played a trial game against "The Rest," on Saturday, running out winners after an interesting game by 20 points to 10The reps kicked oft from the northern end, and from the exchange of kicks Pcckham secured and ran nicely to pass to Hemmingway, who transferred to Appleby, the latter being caught in possession. Open, loose plav followed for a session, without advantage to either side. Robinson (for the Rest) eventually secured, cut in, and ran straight up-field before transferring to Young. A try seemed certain, but Hemmingway caught Young, whose pass went astray, and the ball was punted well up-fleld by McOcarty. The next bright passing bout was initiated by Hemmingway, who beat two opponents in a tricky run before passing to Stephenson, who was eventually grassed near the twenty-five line. Play hung at midfield for a time, • until Appleby obtained possession and ran straight up the line. When tackled he passed in-field to Bond, to McGearty to Johnson/ and in to Buffet, who ran in unopposed to score under the posts. Buffet missed the kick. Reps 3, The Rest 0. From the kick-off the Rest attacked with renewed efforts, and penned the Reps in their own twenty-five. Taylor, full back for Bops, saved the situation with a timely mark, the ensuing kick finding the touchline near half-way. Interesting play followed, the ball being thrown about by both sides without either getting near enough to the lino to add points. Eventually Appleby, on the -right wing, obtained possession, and ran straight through to the twenty-five, where his reverse pass was taken nicely by Bond, the ball going from hand to hand to the left wing, Muir, who scored a few yards from the corner. Hemmingway's kick missed the posts- Reps 6, The Rest 0. A few minutes later the Reps again pressed the attack, Buffet's kick infield leading tc a force- The. Rest now took a turn on attack, Bezar, Gilmorc and Young being prominent. Their efforts, however, were rcsultless, McGearty punting the ball well in-field to Collett. The latter mis-kicked, Bond obtaining possession, but losing a sure try through hesitation. Taylor (Rest) got his side out of danger a few minutes later, by marking. The kick, however, went out on the full. The play following went to neutral territory, and was near the mid-field flag when half-time sounded. The Second Half. Shortly after the resumption the Reps secured from the scrum, Peckham passing to Buffet, when went through to the opposing fullback before passing to McGoarty, who scored in a handy position. The same player missed the attempt at goal. Reps 9, Rest 0.

The Reps' efforts were sustained, and from a nice passing bout Hemmingway scored. Buffet missed the goal. Reps 12, Rest 0. The Rest now took a turn at attack, Gilmore being prominent with some nice footwork. Stephenson (Reps) infringed, and Robinson kicked a fine goal. Rest 2, Reps 12.

From the kick-out the ball was mulled, and McGearty obtained possession near midflcld. His strong run carried him through to Collett, from whose tackle he broke loose, and scored in a handy position. The Rest now showed to better advantage, and kept the Reps busy on defence for the next 15 minutes. Play was bright and interesting, with both teams handling well, only determined tackling spoiling scoring opporunities. Eventually from a srum near the Reps' line Gilmore worked his way over for a try, G. Taylor adding the extras. Rest 7, Reps 20. Exciting play followed, with the Rest pressing hard, and compelling the Reps to force down. Shortly afterwards Gollett kicked well towards the Reps line, and following his kickthrough obtained possession in a scramble and went over the line. C. Taylor missed the kick. Rest 10, Reps 20. Prom the exchange fo-llowing the kick-out, Muir obtained possession and ran through, till tackled by'Taylor. The pass in-fleld to Buffet was mulled, and the ball went out near the twenty-five. A few minutes later the final bell sounded with the scores unalteredMr Greenwood was referee.
