Sir Joseph Ward is in the South Island. Major and Mrs Findlayson, of Te Kuiti, are spending the week-end at the Empire. Miss Josie Melville and the members of the "Sally" company left Wellington .by yesterday's boat for Sydney. Mr Justice Fraser and the members of the Arbitration Court returned to Wellington from the South Island yesterday. The Minister of Education and Justice (Hon C. J. Parr) will leave Wellington to-day for Auckland. Mr George Edgecumbe, of Auckland, and one of the earliest settlers of Hamilton, who has been on a short visit to the town, left for the city, at mid-day to-day. The Prime Minister will leave for Christchurch where he will stay over Sunday, departing on Monday morning for Duncdin, where he is to open the Otago Winter Show. The Governor-General, Lord Jelllcoc, accompanied by Commander Dove and Captain Southey, returned to Auckland this morning from a' fishing expedition lo Waimarino. Mr James Miller has been appointed clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Morrinsville and Mr J. E. Laing as-sistant-clerk of the Court there. Mr J. S. Connett, of New Plymouth, has been appointed an acting member of the -Alain Highways Board during the absence from New Zealand of Mc A. E, .lull, of Waipawa. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., Temuka, underwent a serious operation at Dunedin on Thursday. It was entirely successful, and Mr Burnett expects to bo able to be present when the Parliamentary session opens. Brigadier Gunn, Commander of the Salvation Army in the Auckland division, arrived in Hamilton last night. He will remain here till Monday. The Brigadier is farewelling from Auckland and has been appointed Field Secretary for the Dominion with his headquarters in Wellington. Quite a number of men prominent in the public life of North Auckland, are in the town for the Show,"and to attend Die various breeders' sales iQ the district. Amongst .them are Messrs A. E. Phillips, of Whangarei; A. Christie, the well-known Jersey breeder of Ilikurangi; H. Crawford, editor of'the Whangarei Advocate, and president of the Whangarei A. and P. Association: W. P. Begg, president of the Northern Wairoa A. and P. Association. Dargaville; R. R. McLennan, Kauri, a well-known Shortborn breeder. A. Watson, manager of the Springhead butter and cheese factory, Maungateperc: W. E. Hunter, Whangarei: W. J. Bell, vicepresident of the Whangarei A. and P. Association, and a well-known sheep breeder, and .1. Rutherford, manager of the Ilikurangi butter factory, who has carried off the championship banner and three first prizes in the dairy section at the Show.
