Mr W. P. Begg, of Northern Wairoa, has been visiting Hamilton, Dr. McKillop, of Wellington, is* at the Commercial Hotel.

Mr M. Whitehead, one of the old Thames pioneers, is on a visit to Hamilton.

Mr Jas. Bull, of Hunterville, was in Hamilton yesterday, and Is staying at the Empire. Mr R. Duthie, of Christchurch, the ex-manager of Suttons, Ltd., is in Hamilton.

Mr F. C. Bunyard, of Cambridge, has been appointed engineer to the Borough of Rotorua.

Captain Hewitt, R.N., with his wife and family, was a visitor to the Winter Show to-day.

Mr Justice Chapman has intimated that he desires to be relieved of his temporary duty on the Supreme Court Bench at the end of this month. Hon R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, has returned to Wellington. Mr C. B. Smith, who has been visiting Queensland, returned to Hamilton yesterday. Mr F. O'B. Loughnan, late stipendiary magistrate at Hamilton is at present in town.

The death is announced of Dr. William Baxter Gow, who was formerly in charge of the Mount View and Sunnyside Mental Hospitals. Messrs A. Rastall, A. Goudie (Wellington), T. Pearson (Gisborne), J. Gilchrist (Auckland), and G. Buchanan (Pacroa), are among the guests at the Commercial Hotel.

Amongst the guests at the Empire Hotel, Frankton, are Messrs G. A. Gammon (Marton), J. D. Hunter (Dunedin), S. G. Holland (Christchurch) and E. J. Shepherd (Feilding).

Mr J. S. Prentice, of Wellington, has arrived in Hamilton in company with Mrs Prentice to lake over the position as manager of the local branch of"the Government Life Insurance Company, vice Mr S. Lalta, who has been appointed to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Prentice are at present at Ihe Empire Hotel.

On Wednesday Rev James Paterson, senior minister of St John's Presbyterian Church, Wellington, celebrated his ninety-fourth birthday. The occasion was marked by a gathering of Mr Paterson's oldest and most intimate friends at his residence. All extended their felicitations to him, and remarked upon his wonderful hail and hearty appearance. There were several of his brother ministers present, and Revs Dr Elliott, W. J. Comrie, J. H. McKenzie, and A. B. Todd, referred to the work that Mr Paterson had done, and his fine character and selfsacrifice. Rev Paterson made a suitable reply to the congratulations. Mr Paterson received congratulatory mes_ sages from all parts of the Dominion, and a cablegram from old friends in Edinburgh.
