FRIESIAN CATTLE.
MR D. ROSS' DISPERSAL SALE.
The Fricsian stud of Mr David Ross was successfully dispersed yesterday, at the homestead, "Tor View," Cambridge. The arrangements were excellent, and the sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., the stud stock specialists, associated with Messrs Abrahams and Williams, Ltd. Competition was confined solely to the Auckland province, but nevertheless, anything showing quality met, with a ready sale. The bigger portion of the catalogue were appendix cattle, or descended from appendix stock, and these sold exceptionally well for this class, as short pedigree cattle are very little in favour with breeders. Bulls at this time of the year are usually slow of sale.'but yesterday anything showing quality realised good money. The highest price for females was 185gns., paid by the Riverlea Land Syndicate, of Hobsonville, for the great breeding matron Pride Fayne Segis. This is a daughter of King Fayne Segis (imp.), from Brookland's Pride, and was one of the heaviest producers in the Westmere herd. The grand old imported cow, Clothilde Mercena de Kol 2nd, now 12 years old, but still in great heart, was purchased by Col. R. C. Allen, Morrinsvilre, for 60gns. The 31 full pedigree females', including calves.*-averaged 40gns per head, and were distributed among the following herds:—The Riverlea Land Syndicate, Hobsonville; John Court. Ltd., Auckland; Wesley Land Syndicate, Paerata; Col. R. C. Allen, Mrs A. M. Hodgson, Tamaherc; R. Winter, Horsham Downs; W. S. Colbeck, Waiuku; Chas. Booker, Tuakau; T. Davis', Auckland; G. Rennie, Taupiri; Norman Banks, Cambridge; Fred Ward, Te Aroha; Whewell Bros., Tamahere, etc. The eight bulls averaged 27gns., the top price, 46gns., being paid by Mr R. Winter, of Horsham Downs* for an eight months old son of the great imported sire, Bell Farme Echo Sylvia Trojan. The 29 head of appendix cattle, including this year's calves, averaged £2l 4s.
