Mrs R. F. Bollard, accompanied her husband (Hon R, F. Bollard) on his visit to Hamilton for the Waikato Winter Show and jubilee selebrations.

Miss Gladys Moncrleff, "who was married at Sydney last, week to Mr Tom Moore, a dancer with the Royal Comic Opera Company, was, with her husband, a passenger on the Maunganui, which sailed from Wellington for San Francisco on Tuesday.

The engagement is announced of Mr James Lee Hodgson, second son of .the laic Mr T. 0. and Mrs Hodgson, "Ryvington," Tamahere, to Miss Thclma Bacon, second daughter of Mr and the late Mrs Bacon, Maslcrton.

The officials of the Hamilton Telephone Exchange during the past week gave Miss K. Kearin an afternoon, prior to her retirement to be married. The gathering was a happy one, and during its progress Mr W. T. Goad, chief postmaster, presented Miss Kearin with a handsome cutglass bowl, subscribed by the staff. In doing so he referred in the highest terms to the excellent service rendered the Departcmcut by Miss Kearin, whom all were sorry to lose as a colleague, while wishing her every happiness in her married life. Miss Kearin made suitable response.

The death of Mrs Natalina Censiglja Trayes, nee McCallum, at her residence. Epsom. Auckland, last week, came as a shock to the musicloving public, and all that wide circle, of friendj to whom Mrs Trayes had endeared herself. Born in New Zealand 29 years ago, Mrs Trayes, when quite young, gave promise of being a fine sinsrer. Ultimately she studied at the Conservatarium of Music, Sydney, under Madame Groosens-Viceroy. From the time of her return, Miss McCallum, as she then was, charmed not only Aucklanders, tut musiclovers throughout the Dominion with her bcauL'iful voice, anil sang at various cities of both islands.

MISS GLADYS FWQNCRIEFF'S WEDDING. Miss Gladys Moncrieff's marriage at St. James's Church, Sydney, recently, to Mr Tom Moore (a member of the Royal Comic Opera Company), aroused great interest amongst playgoers and in professional circles. In order to comply with the church regulations, admission tickets were necessary to witness the marriage ceremony.

TE AROHA CROQUET SEASON. Over 30 croquet players met at the residence of Mrs Dukes at Te Aroha on Friday evening. The president, Mrs Dukes, gave out the prizes won during the season: Opening progressive, A grade, Mrs J. A very enjoyable dance was given on Thursday eveining at "Biverside," London Street, the home of Mr and Mrs S. Wilson. In the grounds bright coloured lanterns dangled from every bush, while the dancing took place in the larpra drawing-room, which was artistically decorated with gaily coloured streamers. After a delicious supper, served in the dining-room, the Lime passed all too quickly. Between the dances, musical item? were given by Misses Wcrnhiam and Evans and Messrs Russell-Wood, Tombs, Carter, Hodgson and S. Wilson. Mrs Wilson, in a beaded gown of pink brocade, received the guests ajid was assisted by her daughter Mavis in a gown of pink satin, with touches of blue and gold, and Mass Rene Wilson, of Remuera, in a prctly frock of blue palette silk and silver lace. Others present were: Mesdames Evans and Gibson, Misses E. Wilson, tipsy. Tombs, Sweeney. A very jolly evening was spent at the residence of Mr aud Mrs C. W. Wealherley, "Chester Villa," Claudelands, on Thursday, when they entertained some of their friends to a progressive 500 tournament. Tile ladies' prize was won by Mrs A. B. Trythall, and the men's by Master C. Brown. The booby prizes went to Miss A. Watkinson and Mr 11. Kitts. After a delightful supper musical items were given by Mrs L. W. W. Brown, Mrs Johnson, Miss Peggy Stratford (Takapuna), Miss S, Watkinson and Mr G. Wealherley. Among those present were Mesdamcs Trythall, Johnson, Brown, Kitto, and Misses Stratford and Watkinson, Messrs Trythall, Kitto, Brown, Watkins on and Shanaghan. A PLEASANT EVENING. An exceedingly pleasant evening was spent at. .Mrs Barman's residence, Gordonlon, recently, when a number of young people journeyed out from Hamilton to pay homage to Miss Gretla Barman. Despite the inclement weather everybody arrived in the I highest of spirits, and eagerly awaitI ed the commencement of the festivities. The large drawing-room was cieapcd for dancing, the floor being in excellent order. Several novelty dances were introduced, much to the amusement of everybody. The dances were interspersed with games and competitions. Musical items wcri pleasingly rendered by Miss I. Grice, Messrs Matthews, C. Adams and A. Finlay. Extras were played by .Mrs Harman, Misses E. Fox, E. Murray and Mr Matthews. The time passed all too quickly and it was a tired but happy party that bade adieu to their kind hostesses, who had done everything possible to make the evening such a huge success.
