Maurea, who will go to Ellerslie with Prince Rufus and Bright Day from J. F. Tutchen's stables, claims an engagement in the Carbine Plate, to be run on the middle day of the meeting, also a hack engagement on the third day.

Heisler and Monday, the two candidates from A. Crauk's stables at Hamilton East, with engagements at Ellerslie on Tuesday, have been at headauarters for some time. Heisler, who goes fast for a short term, is engaged in the Members' Handicap, of six furlongs, with 8.0, while Monday will start in a division ->f the Jo.vois Handicap, where the Day Comet gelding is in the minimum.

On the score of condition, begat by racing, Prince Rufus will be as wc'l prepared as the best and better than the majority of the field the King Rufus gelding will encounter in the Great Northern Hurdles in which he will start one of the fancied candidates. Tutchen's charge can be expected to acquit himself well at Ellerslie.

Since leaving Alison's stables Illumination has been trained at Te Awamutu. where the sandy formation of the course provides opportunity for fast work in Ihe wet weather. The Limelisht -Fleet Street representative promises to he one of the hardest to beat in the Cornwall Handicap. Bright Day has engagements to fulfil on the second and third days at Ellerslie. Owing to the sodden state of the tracks, it has been 'impossible to indulge the Day Comet chestnut in any fast work. He raced last at the Avondale fixture.

The imported Lapidary is reported to have trained on well at Te Awamutu but at times has shown a disinclination to feed. If Trainer Read gels the imported Black Jester colt to the post fit and well he can be expected to make a bold showing. White Comet has been at Ellerslie wel ahead. Mr G. Seiferfs gelding is in the second division of the Jervois Handicap on Tuesday in which he can be expected to run forward provided he lias the services of a good rider. White Comet goes out quickly from the barrier as a rule. Te Kara has been doing all that has been asked of the General LatoUr gelding at To Awamutu in preparation for his Cornwall Handicap engagement. He can act in the going but lias a good weight in 10.-i. The mile and a quarter may be a little brief, but no promises io play his part well. It is reported that an offer of over £2500 wan recently submitted and refused for Te Kara whose value as a handicap horse has been convincingly demonsi rated.

Mr .1. Dobhs, of Malangi, who previously raced King Quln with much success, has two promising juvenile candidates Io be shorlly added lo the lisl of racing slock. A 2 year old lilly by <":irl Mofta from Chlorine is being handled wilh a view lo making he'' debut at the hunt fixture. A youngster by Ihe imported Swift Flight from Chlorine, not yet one

year, is a particularly attractive sort and 'all going well should be heard from when the call is made. Gipsy Quln, 'another of -Mr Dobbs' stock who went off the scene early, is in foal to Nassau.
