ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

SOUTH AUCKLAND MATTERS. The draw for the flve-a-side tournament to be held at Seddon Park on Saturday took place at the usual management committee meeting held earlier in the week, the winners to receive a gold medal each:—First Round: Wanderers A v. Rotowaro, Hamilton United v. Glen Massey B. Pukemiro v. Wanderers B, Piako United v. Glen Massey A. Second Round: Wanderers A or Rotowaro v. Pukemiro or Wanderers B, Hamilton United or Glon Massey B v. Piako United or Glen Massey A. These games will be played for a duration of seven minutes each way, with one minute for an interval, the first match commencing at 1.30 p.m. sharp.

JUNIOR NOTES. (By " Lex.") Claudelands Hovers effected a surprise Inst Saturday, when they defeated the strong Huntly eleven by 3 goals to 1. The score was one all at half-time, but the Hamilton team displayed better staying powers and at the end had no difficulty in collecting the points. Hamilton United showed greatly improved form to the previous Saturday. and scored a comfortable victory over Hamilton Wanderers by 3 goals to J. Both teams were below strength, and good football was out of the questioi: owing to the climatic conditions. For the winners Yedder and Miller were the pick of the forwards, while Hand and Asplin played a very sound defensive game. Although the United team is composed of very young players they should be very hard to beat as the season progresses. The Wanderers sadly missed the services of their two backs, the Clark brothers. They have the making of a ■very flue player in young Crabb, who though by far the smallest player 1 on the tield got through u great deal of work and did it, well.

A point that was very noticeable about tin', play of both teams on Saturday was l.he tendency of the players to wander- It should be impressed upon these players that the only way lor a team to win matches is by combination, and it is absolutely impossible for any team to combine properly if the players do not keep their position-

That keen supporter of I he Claudelands team, Mr C. L. Lowe, is leaving on a holiday visit, to Australia. The Claudelands team say that they are going to add to his welcome home by being the champions io the junior divi.iiion. However, it looks as if one or

two of the other teams are going to | have "a linger in die pie." Anyhow,, all Soccer enthusiasts are unanimous in wishing Mr Lowe bon voyage and an enjoyable trip.
