A NOVEL EXHIBIT.

EXCLUSEVE N.Z. ¥/ORKtNG MODEL'. BORING FOR OIL. An interesting- and unique exhibit is l that of the , Big Tree agents, Messrs A. S. Paterson and Co. Included in their attractive stand is the only working model of an oil well in Australasia.; with all the necessary plant, derrick, tanks, gas-engine, pumps, etc., and demonstrations are given daily by the representative in charge. The model is not built exactly to scale, owing to the impossibility of gelling the, correct height for tlie derrick, but it lias been. built purely with the idea of giving the people in New Zealand an opportunity of knowing exactly the process gone'through to obtain oil. The well is bored in a similar manner to an ordinary water bore, and lengths of piping arc driven down until the oil is struck. Some wells when opened shoot the oil up of I heir own accord. These are ' known ns "Gushers," but after a while j ih.; natural air is exhausted and' the 1 pumps have to be installed. The power for the pump is derived i from a. gas-engine placed'in the centre | of the plant, and the energy is transmitted from this source by a series of swinging arms, which operate the jack pumps employed. The exhibit is certainly one which calls for more than passing attention: the details and process are clearly and simply explained, and no one should miss the opportunity of inspecting the plant during Show ! Week. Next year it is .hoped to demonstrate the process of refining- the crude oils from which the well-known Big Tree motor spirit, benzine, etc., are obtained.

Surrounding the model is a large and attractive display of the different Big Tree petroleum products—Motor Spirit, Benzine, Power Benzine, Kerosene, Creases and Petroleum Jelly, all of which arc of the straight run variety. The Big Tree water white 150. test kerosene has proved itself equal to any kerosene on the market, and is giving the utmost satisfaction to thousands of users throughout the Dominion—such a record is not attained accidentally. The Dunedin Harbour. Board have had the Water White Kerosene under a strict series of tests, and have bean using it in the lighthouses around the Bluff and Dunedin Harbour for the past two years. For many years the Big Tree petroleum products have reached a very high standard, and every day motorists, engineers, etc., are beginning to realise the great importance attached to using the right benzine, or lubricating oils, in order that the best may be obtained from any motor unit. The name Big Tree is a guarantee of good faith, and much money and trouble could be saved by asking definitely for Big Tree products, which are controlled by Messrs A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., which is a New Zealand firm.
