MAEROA AND FOREST LAKE.
RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Maeroa and Forest Lake Ratepayers Association was held on Monday. The chairman (Mr Reekie) reported that the petition for inclusion in the Hamilton Borough had been gazetted last month, and so far as was known only a technical objection iiad been received at the Internal Affairs Office from the Hamilton Borough Council. The whole movement for amalgamation had gone on smoothly, and it was hoped the district shortly would become a part of the Hamilton Borough. The next step would be to go fully into financial matters with a view to raising loans for sewerage, water and roads. The chairman also reported having together with Mr Mawson, motored the Chief Postmaster over the district with a view to getting an extension of postal delivery. After seeing the district the Chief Postmaster expressed his recognition of the need for an extension, but stated that everything would depend on an extra postman being granted to the Frankton branch.
Some discuse'on took place regarding the following loans proposals in the Hamilton Borough for dealing with the large amount of sewerage from private factories and also to cope with tile outflow from the large septic tanks along the Waitewhiriwhiri stream. Members felt that there was a probability of this loan being vetoed as Hamilton residents were not aware of the menace to health by leaving matters in the present state. The stench along this stream in summer was disgraceful and extended from Stokes’ Gully to Whitiora.—lt was finally agreed that the secretary obtain and publish all particulars with a view to enlightening the ratepayers as to the imperative need from a health point of view of carrying this loan.
