West End crowds to-day were as* tonishod by a thrilling pursuit of moto*: bandits. Two men dismounted from a motor! car in New Bond Street at 10 a.m. They smashed a window of liar ban’s jeweller’s shop with hammers and. snatched a diamond necklace valued at £BOOO. They then re-entered the car and drove towards Piccadilly. A policeman was a witness of thd audacious theft, and jumping into a, taxi he pursued the thieves, other police and pedestrians joining in the chase.
Tho robbers abandoned the car during a traffic block in the street, and escaped to the tube station.
