LABOUR’S AIMS.

POLITICAL MANIFESTO. REVIVAL OF IDEALS. (Australian end N.Z Cable Assn.) WASHINGTON, May 0. The American Federation of Labour has issued a political bulletin outlining the demands it makes before giving its support to any party at the coming elections. The bulletin slates that in the first place there must he a revival of the spirit of honesty, integrity, and liighmindednegs among men holding public offices. The astounding revelations of the last few months are proof that there is need of a great regeneration in American idealism. Labour, moreover, asks for the repeal of anti-trust laws which apply to labour organisations, and a continuation of a sharply graduated income and inheritance tax. It favours reductions which would be mainly beneficial to small incomes. The federation advocates the entrance of the United States into the League of Nations and the World Court- 'lt asks for a permanent immigration policy, and the enforcement of strict exclusion for many years to come. Labour wants the power of the Supreme Court curtailed, and asks that the judiciary’s power to issue injunctions in labour disputes shall he removed. The bulletin declares that the prohibition law Is an improper interpretation of the 18th amendment, and demands a modification of the law to permit of beer containing 2.75 per cent, of alcohol. It concludes: We need less “ thou shalt not ” in outlaws.
