THE CABINET.
RECONSTRUCTION PROBABLE. The portfolios held by Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, who is leaving for his home on holiday, have been distributed as follows: —Forestry, Sir Francis Bell; Defence, Hon. W- Downie Stewart; War Pensions, State Fire, Government Life Insurance, Superannuation, and Friendly Societies, lion. G. J. Anderson.
Owing to the ill-health of two Ministers (Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Mr D. 11. Guthrie) there has, says a Wellington correspondent, been some discussion regarding the possibility of Ministerial reconstruction. Some Government members consider it is likely to eventuate during the coming session, but that the Prime Minister is not likely to make any announcement till lie has had an opportunity of meeting his Parliamentary supporters. It is suggested that the new portfolio may fall to Mr A. D. McLeod, the member for Wairarapa, who, in all probability, would got the portfolio of Lands.' He has been on the land himself all his life, and knows New Zealand conditions.
