LADIES’ HOCKEY. WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. The annual general meeting of the Waikato Ladies’ Hockey Association was held in the library meeting room. There were present Mrs li. English and Misses Bishop, Howe, Henry, Howlett, Money, Cann (2), Murray, Howe N. Tearly, Masters Jenkins, Sanders, Ware and Clevely. Mrs English presided. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following officials were appointed:—President, Mrs R. English; vice-presidents, Mr Fabling, and Mcsdames Ross, Jones, Fraser and Howe and Miss Bishop. Secretary and treasurer, Miss Joy Howe; assistant secretary and treasurer, Miss Elsie Cann; delegates to Association, Mr Fabling and Miss Howe. The ladies’ hockey for this season promises to be of good standard and the competition very keen. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to the chair and the retiring officials. EMPSON CUP. Another match in the Empson Cup competition, held under the auspices of the Waipa Hockey Association, was played at Patqrangi, when the home team met United. Paterarigi held the advantage for a start, and after pressing for some time scored a goal through the agency of Tarr. After some time United took a hand, and at least two golden opportunities were missed. Paterangi, who were keeping their places better, scored again later, Burrows acting. ■ United, putting up a hot attack, scored, B. Irwin putting in a hot shot. Half-time came with the score: Pateo-angi 2, United 1. The second half saw some give and take play till United set up a hot attack and R. Andrews with a good shot equalised. Paterangi’s .combination was decidedly superior, and it was this that gained them the victory, though they should be a much improved team by the end of the season. Boswell was a tower of strength to United. Paterangi all worked well, the hacks backing up their forwards and hitting to them. Mr W. J. Hebden acted as referee. The Te Awamuau team was entertained to afternoon tea by the Paterangi ladies in their usual hospitable fashion. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. The Waikato Hockey Association has arranged the following matches for Saturday:— Senior: Hamilton v. Y.M.C.A., No. 1 ground, 3 p.m.; Ngahinepouri v. Frankton United, No. 2 ground, 3 p.m.; Old Boys a bye. Junior: Y.M.C.A. v. Baptist, No. 1 ground, 1.30 p.m.; Old Boys v. Frankton United, No. 2 ground, 1.30 p.m.; Hamilton v. . Ngahinepouri, at Ngahinepouri.
