(By "Gipsy.") Mrs J. Gray has returned from a long holiday in Auckland. * * * * Miss Nolan, of Auckland, is visiting Mrs W. Hunter. * ••:= * * Mrs V. J. Lamer, of Auckland, is staying with her daughter, Mrs B. Wake. * * # * Mr and Mrs H. J. Collision have returned to Whangarei after spending a short holiday in Hamilton. * * * * On Saturday evening last a number of friends assembled at tlto residence of Mrs M. A. Fox, Hamilton East, to pay their respects to Miss E. Fox, it being the occasion of her 18th birthday. The spacious drawing-room was tastefully decorated, ana the floor was in excellent order for dancing, which took up Hic major portion of the programme. Hems and songs were contributed by the following:—Ducts Misses E. and X. Fox (piano and violin), Miss Palmer and Mr Matthews, Mr and Mrs Dcssent; solo, Miss Stewart and Mr C. Adams. A feature of the evening was the playing and singing of Mr Matthews, who was heard in native songs and lullabys. Mr Spencer Salt arrived during the evening, and his assistance with the dance music was greatly appreciated. The time for departure came all too soon, and prior to the last dance cheers were given for the hostess, and "For they arc jolly good fellows" was most heartily sung. Miss Fox suitably responded. The singing of "Auld Lang Sync" brought a most successful evening • to a close. Amongst those present were: Mrs and Miss Fox (hostesses), Mrs Uesscnt, Misses Nelson, Baker (Cambridge). E. Stephenson, J. Stewart, M. Rutherford, M. Bourne, M. Stewart, F. Earlo, 11. Bourne, V. Priest, Webber, E. Grice, E. Warrick, P. Hegarly, N. Fox, Palmer, and Rutherford. FAREWELL AT GORDONTON. A farewell social evening was tendered to Mr and Mrs Flay and family by the residents of Piako Road, Gordonton at Messrs Young Bros residence. A very enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, games and cards. Musical items were rendered by Miss I. Andrews and Mr R. Tennant. During the evening Mr Young in a few suitable words, eulogised the many good qualities of Mr Flay as a neighbour and said that he was all that could be desired and the district in general, .and his neighbours in particular, would suffer an acute loss when Mr Flay and family took their departure. Mr Flay suitably replied. A very pleasant evening was closed by the singing of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows." KITCHEN EVENfNa AT GOROONTON The many friends of Miss M. Maunder took the opportunity of tendering her a kitchen evening on the occasion of her approaching marriage. The weather unfortunately was not all that could be desired, however, the large number of well wishers who -turned out for the occasion spoke volumes for the popularity of the guest of the evening. A most enjoyable evening wa s spent in dancing, the floor being in excellent order. During the evening Mr W. Carswell asked Miss Maunder to accept a large basketful of small articles for the kitchen, as a tangible expression of the sincere good _,

wishes of her friends toward herself and her future husband, Mr Wood. The opening of the various packages caused much amusement. Mr Maunder, on behalf of his daughter, suitably responded.
