HOSPITAL ALLOCATIONS.

LEVY ON LOCAL BODIES. REDUCTION OF £4OOO. BIG INCREASE IN FEES. The Waikato Hospital allocations for the present year are now fixed, and show a reduction of £4OOO required from the local bodies in contributions' as compared with what was required from them last year. Under the new schedule passed last session, the Waikato Hospital Board, owing to its great area, and valuation in proportion to its' low expenditure and high receipts, is placed in the unenviable position of receiving the minimum subsidy payable by the Government during 1924-25 — 14/- in the £. as against some other boards in the Dominion receiving 24/6 in the £. One gratifying feature of the Board's operations during the past year is the fact that £2OOO more was collected in fees' than was estimated would be gathered in. This was largely a result of the Board's campaign against defaulters able to pay, which was instituted during the past 12 months. The allocations arc as follows:

Following are the estimates' for the current year:— Estimated Receipts.—Patients' fees, £9300; patients' fees (Rotorua), £400; donations and subsidy, £200; Medical Associations, medical contribution and subsidy £BOO, medical special grant (Maoris) £SO; district nursing, contributions and subsidy, £210; rents, £1300; Old Age Pensions, £900; miscellaneous' receipts and refunds, £350; cash as'sets, March 31, 1924, £9991 0s 9d; balance raised by levy and subsidy, £27,579; total, £51,080. Estimated Payments. Maintenance Waikato Hospital, provisions £BOOO, surgical and dispensary £4OOO, domestic and establishment £6OOO, painting buildings £BOO, salaries and wages £14,000, Kawhia Hospital £I2OO, Matamata Hospital £I2OO, Rotorua Hospital £3000; charitable aid, Old Men's Home £I7OO, sundry relief £5150; Medical Associations, Raglan £370; district nursing, Mokai £250, Awakino £250; public health travelling expenses of nurses, £100; patients in other hospitals, £200; interest on loans, £1900; administration £2000; miscellaneous, £960; sinking fund (loan), £550; additions and equipment, £750; steam services, £2000; X-Hay plant, £1000; motor van, £200; cold storage and refrigerating plant, £800; alterations and replacements, £200; Matamata hospital, £500; total £57,080.
