MR RAMSAY MACDONALD.
* A CHARACTER SKETCH. PAINTED BY LORD BIRKENHEAD. A NEW, IF PALER, CROMWELL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received January 21, 12.30 p.m. ' LONDON, January 20. Lord Birkenhead, in a character sketch, in the Sunday Times', of Mr Ramsay MacDonald, says: "Labour socialism is a solid political force of groat strength. It has come to stay, and we have to try to be interested in the leaders. I read the mind of Mr MacDonald as the possessor of the rigidity of the school of Sidney Webb, with slightly artificial re-echo of the passion that seems bred on the Clyde, aad if tho forces which arc opposed to '•Socialism do not forget their other differences, he may be a new-, if paler, Cromwell, who will yet give modern England a taste of what, the Kingdom of Lallerday Saints means to life, property, and happiness."
