DUKE'S SON'S AMBITION.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) The Marquis of Douglas and Clydesdale, heir of the Duke of Hamilton, who has been coached by Dick Smith, won on points in a six-round boxing contest at Bermondsey Town Hall against E. R. Lucas, one of the best amateur middle-weights. The Marquis, who was cheered by thousands of dock workers, is fair headed and sturdily built. He said: "My ambition is to become a champion amateur boxer, and I hope to be selected for tho Olympic Games team." Mr Lucas said that the Marquis' body punches were terrific, and he was the better man.

The Marchioness of Hamilton, watching her son fight, said, "Why cannot we return to the Viking days when 'tribal disputes were settled by flghls of picked men? If we could choose 100 boxers from each side and let them decide, it would be much better than a dreadful war with the terrible bloodshed."

NEW YORK, January 18. Greb retained the title of world's mi<ldlc-wci.sit boxing champion against Johnny Wilson, the former champion, by the decision in a 15round bout. MELBOURNE, January 19. Jack Finney knocked out George White in the third round after he himself had been down for nine in the second round. The fighting was very rapid. In a bout between Mendies and llickey, the former proved too clever for Hiekey, who wenl down to a double cross, and the referee stopped the contest.
