The settlers all along the Okete road will find the benefit this' winter of tlie metal that has been put on the road, which hitherto has only been a mud track at that time of the year. Carnival Concert. The' carnival concert was a great success, the hall being filled to overflowing. Following was the programme :—Pianoforte duet, "Italy," Miss Bryant and Mrs Ross; recitation, Mrs McSweeny; dance, scarf. Miss D. Sanford; song, "Bells of Brittany," Mrs C. Towsey (encore. "Homing") ; recitation, "Vive la France," Miss K. Mears; violin solo, "Obertass," Mr L. Scott; song, "Villanclle," Miss Ibbotson; monologue, "To be Continued in Our Next," Miss N. Sanford; duet. "I : Love You Truly," Mrs Boyes and Mrs Waddell; recitation, "Old Chap," Miss' Gilmour; song, "Beloved It is Morn," Mrs Boyes; song, "Give Me Thy Sympathy,"" Miss Craig: recitation, "The Doll's Complaint," Miss D. Sanford; song, "When Shadows Gather," Mrs . C. .Towsey; dance, Mrs O'Brien: song, ! "Mignon," Miss Ibbotson. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Ross. Fancy Dress Ball. ! The fancy dress ball held in the ' Raglan Town Hall at the time or the carnival was also a great success. There was a first-class supper and the music was supplied by the Raglan Orchestra, and Mrs Munro, Miss and Mr Scott. Following were the fancy dress' prize-winners:—Most original costume, Miss D. Scavill, "Kolyno-s"; prettiest lady's costume, Miss P. Hooper, "Peggy O'Neil"; man's fancy costume, Mr Delamero, "Pierrot"; special prize, Miss' E. Pickcn, "The Sea." The other costumes were too numerous to mention and presented a dazzling sight,
