GERMAN BONDS.
LEAP HIGHER AND HIGHER. SPECULATORS’ BEG PROFITS. REDEMPTION OF PRE-WAR DEBT. (Australian and N.E. Cable Assn.' Recnivcd January 19, .11.30 a.m. LONDON. January 18. Speculators in German bonds in the London Stock Exchange made thousands of pounds to-day. German threes, three and a-halfs and fours, leaped higher every hour, until those who were bought early doubled their money. . German fours, which were worth Os on Monday, and lOs 9d on Wednesday, were 21s to-night. It is stated on the Slock Exchange that the German Government contemplate the redemption of their pre-war deb L. Dutch agents are smuggling bonds across the border into Germany by night. There are certainly heavy buying orders from Amsterdam. The news of rapid profits spread quickly, and jobbers were busy long after the usual hours.
