In the presence of a great gathering Prince Arthur of Connaught laid the foundation stone of the war memorial a! Durban. He paid a tribute to the generous response by men of both the British and Boer races during wartime. The ceremony was most impressive.
This is the Prince of Connaught's last public utterance in South Africa. He has issued a farewell message, acknowledging the kindnesses the Princess and himself have received, irrespective of race, creed or party, and he wishes South Africa prosperity and progress Inwards the splendid destiny lying before her.
