EIGHT MONTHS’ RETURNS.
INCREASE IN REVENUE.

The revenue for the eight, months Was £14.916,074, compared with £13,863,549 in the eight months of 1922-23, a net increase of £1.052,525. The land tax collected amounted to £493,806, a decrease of £168,568, with some receipts 1 to come. The expenditure was £15,615,329 compared with £15,759,613, a decrease of £144,284. The increases and decreases are evenly distributed throughout the different votes, except that in the case of the vote for working railways the issues show a decrease of £397,039 compared with last year. The details of revenue and the increase over last year are: —Customs, £4,693,071 (£1,080,416); beer, duty, £377,860 (£5,317); stamp and death duties, £2,180,763 (£12,910); postal and telegraph, £1,755,359 (£98,069); income tax, £517,518 (£192,608) : railways, £4,025,575 (£143,918); registration and other fees, £110,521 (£16,905); marine, £53,641 (£22,609).
