Mr R. McVeagh, of Auckland, is at the Hamilton Hotel. Alderman Gilpin has been re-clected Lord Mayor of Sydney. Mr L. P. Leary, of Auckland, is amongst the guests at the Grand Central. Mr T. B. Insoll, clerk to the Waikato County Council, who has been on a ten weeks’ visit to Australia, reached Auckland to-day. Mr F. Coffee, a through passenger by the Makura, and author of “Forty Years on the Pacific,” is in Auckland. Mr Coffee, who is now a publisher in Sydney, started life as a news compositor in New York 50 years ago. That Mr. Calvin Coolidgc will be a candidate for Republican nomination for the Presidency in 1024 is definitely announced by his former campaign manager, Mr James Reynolds.

Mr. M. L. Reading, editor of the “Lyttelton Times,” has resigned for private reasons. The resignation lias been accepted, and will take effect in two or three months. —Christchurch wire.

The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, left Auckland for Cambridge this morning to unveil the war memorial there. Later he will proceed to Havelock North and Taradale, returning lo Auckland about December 18.

Dr. 11. T. J. Thacker, formerly Mayor or Christchurch, who is on a world tour, will leave England for the United States on December 12. lie will stay for about a month at Los Angeles," and will leave San Francisco on January 25, on his return to New Zealand. Dr. Thacker will arrive in the Dominion about the middle of February.
