ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WANGANUI, Monday. Mr S. Phillips, aged 35, a married man, was drowned while bathing in the river yesterday. Deceased, who leaves a wife and two children, was a well-known traveller for Van Staveren and Co. The body has not been recovered. NAPIER, Monday. A two-year-old son of Mr Jack Colbert was drowned in the Tutaekuri River this morning. The child’s mother saw the child sinking, and jumped into the water hoping to save it but failed. GISBORNE, Monday. Malta Ruru, aged nine years, fell from the pier at Kanaeknae bridge and was drowned. WAIROA, Monday. On Saturday evening two bathers collided when diving off Nuhaka bridge. A lad named Christy sustained a broken back, and is now lying paralysed. The. other swimmer suffered only slight concussion.
