RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION

MAEROA AND FOREST LAKE. A meeting of tbe sbove was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs Reekie (chairman), Kenah (secretary), Walsh, Young, Mawson, Salisbury and Clark.

The chairman reported that the petition to the Governor-General for inclusion in the Hamilton Borough had been signed by ICO residents. Mops of the defined area were received from Messrs Thompson and I’anrcr.

Cr. Reilly, of the Waipa Council, who attended the meeting, said he hardly thought that has Council would favour the area defined, a 3 there was nearly a mile ot road which would come under the dual control of both bodies.

Mr Reekie pointed out that the most suitable area had been defined and lie. felt sure that when the Wad pa Council went into the matter they would agree that the best boundaries had been chosen. Mr Kenah said that it was almost impossible to define areas without bringing sonic roads under dual control.

The secretary was instructed to send <a map of the area to Cr. Reilly who was asked to place same before his Council.

A resolution was carried closing the petition, which is to he sent on to the Governor-General without delay. It was resolved that in view of the recent assaults on little girls in Seddon Gully the secretary he instructed to write the Hamilton Borough Council asking if they will clear the scrub from the road sides and also plliace a light on the Borough side of the si ream.

Mr Walsh reported that a site of Or} acres bad been acquired for a school on Storey Avenue, a short distance off Forest Lake Read. The Education Board recognised the. urgent need for the immediate erection of a school, as there were nearly 300 children in I lie district, many of whom'attended Ihe Whitiora School, which was badly overcrowded. The Board bad appealed to liic Education Department for a grant but without success. Mr Walsh said that lie had interviewed Mr j. A. Young, M.P., who bad promised lo communicate with the Minister for Education.
