GRADING OF TEACHERS.
WELLINGTON, Saturday
The following resolution was carried unanimously at a largely attended meeting of tiie Wellington Assistant Masters Association: "That this meeting of the Wellington Assistant Masters' Association views with alarm the relatively disadvantageous position of Wellington teachers on the Dominion graded list, and urges the Minister of Education to introduce the board system of promotion until such time as uniformity of appointments is arrived at."
A MEMORIAL CLOCK.
DARGAVILLE, Saturday,
Mr. G. M. Hayes, a well-known local solicitor, has placed an order for a handsome four-sided striking clock. He has signified his intention of presenting it to the town of Dargaville in memory of his late partner, Charles Darling, who was killed in the Great War, also as a memorial to fallen soldiers from the district. Permission has been granted to erect the clock in the post office tower.
DEATH OF PRISONER.
WELLINGTON, Saturday
Pakira Hacata, a young To Ore Ore Maori, who was sentenced to five vears' imprisonment at the March sessions at Masterton for attempted murder at Blackrock station, Wairarapa, died in the Wellington hospital. Deceased during the affray received; a charge from a shot gun in the arm, and the wad produced blood-poisoning. Hacata was in the hospital until his trial at Masterton and ever since he left for Wellington after being sentenced. The arm was amputated on Thursday, but Haeala collapsed after the operation and died.-
