Y.M.C.A.

PALMERSTON CONVENTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Thursday. The National Convention of the Y.M.C.A. was continued. \ Greetings from the ministers of the Methodist denomination were conveyed by Rev. Rugby Pratt. A telegram was received from Rev. Comrie, moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, conveying heartiest greetings. The session was devoted to discussing the committee reports. At the Y.M.C.A. Convention resolutions were carried dealing with immigration, supporting proposals made by the Migration Department of the British National Council, and endeavouring to secure nominations on a group plan. The Minister of Immigration is to be approached with a view to securing the consent of the Government to an equal distribution to that offered by the overseas settlement committee towards the' salary and expenses of a commission to promote the group nomination scheme. Other resolutions were: That Mr H. W. Kersley be reappointed New Zealand representative of the world’s committee; that Mr W. H. George, or an other, be requested to represent the New Zealand Associations at the plenary meetings at Hclingsfors (Finland) in June, 1924, if sufficient support is forthcoming from local associations.

A simultaneous membership effort will be organised in 1924 at a time to suit the local associations, and the national committee must act as the clearing house for the effort.
