FIRE BRIGADES.
POSITION AT IKORRINSViM-E. As the townsfolk of Ngaruawhia are at present discussing- lire brigade matters Mr. A. Warburton asked the Morrinsville Borough Council at its last meeting the following questions— ■ (1) lias Alorrinsville a Are brigade; (2) If so, \is it a municipal concern or under a fire board; (3)‘What was the capital c!ost of the plant and appliances and,; (4) the annual cost to the borough; of running the brigade. The clerk reported having replied as follows: “Soitne 2 years ago a volunteer lire brigade was formed in Morrinsville and the 'Borough Council was approached fob financial assistance. This was granted, the council bearing the capital cotft of gear appliances including- motor amounting to between £SOO and £OOO. The council also decided to make an annual grant of £SO to cover maintauence charges estimated at £35 7s\per annum, the balance to go towards c»tra gear. The brigade raised a separate, fund by entertainments, sports meetings, etc., and erected a fire station yvith social room attached containing a billiard table, and also purchased a fire bell and part paid for uniforms. There is no lire hoard having control over the brigade’ .which is of a semimunicipal character. Mr. Warburton\ thanked the clerk for the quick response to tiis enquiries.
