THE NEW JUDGE.
HON. E. P. LEE NAMED.
EX-MINISTER OF JUSTICE.
By Telesxanh. —Press Association. OAMARU, Wdnesday. Tho Oamaru Mail announces to-day that the Hon. E. P. Lee will probably be the new judge. Tho Hon. E. P. Lee was Minister of External Affairs and Justice in the last Parliament. He lost his scat at the general election, when Mr. J. A. MacPherson defeated him by a narrow majority. Mr, Lee entered an appeal, which was sustained, and the election was voided. In the subsequent by-election Mr. MacPherson's majority was largely increased.
APPOINTMENT DENIED.
OAMARU, Wednesday. The Hon. E. P. Lee gives an emphatic contradiction to the report appearing in tho Oamaru Mail that he has been offered a judgeship. Under the Legislature Act, he states, it is Impossible for a person who has been a member of Parliiunent, other than the Attorney-General, to take up tho position of judge for twelve months after ho ceases to bo a member.
